Intelligence, the ability to learn from experience, the use of knowledge to alter the environment. These virtues are what defined our predecessors but eventually drove us all to the brink of destruction. The image titled "Respite" tells the story of an ongoing battle between man & nature. Set in the remote region of Nunavut, Canada, a place that the polar bears used to call home; the image depicts the white beast on its last legs in an attempt to protect against the forces of man. Signs of industrialization and pollution are apparent in the distance and a melted lake is the only thing standing between the colonizer and the natives. Science has progressed, machines have become more sophisticated, but our ideals and instincts have remained primitive : to claim dominance over Mother Nature. But what if we could change those ideals, what if we could save her?
