The Aftermath

I read an article about how monkeys in Thailand are no longer in use for coconut production because there are claims that they are forced to up to 1000 coconuts per day and this is seen as animal cruelty. In many parts of southern Thailand, monkeys are traditionally raised as companions, pets, and family members and thus are trained to pick coconuts for small scale farming for the livelihood of the family. The bond between monkeys and their owners is genuine and undeniable. Monkeys are intelligent animals and will not respond positively to torture or abuse. Thai society does not tolerate acts of cruelty towards animals and any individual act violating animal welfare laws is strictly enforced in the country.

Therefore I want to create a poster that renders this inspiring theme. My idea is that the poster is split into two sides. One side will have a monkey climbing coconut trees and they all seem happy and willing and there's maybe a farmer at the bottom calling the monkey to come down- and the idea is this side of the poster is trying to show how nature and humans are very closely bonded and the environment is a beach and feels like a paradise and nature is forever pleasing.

The second half of the poster will show the opposite to the first side and I want to represent what we humans have done as a result of causing this monkey business to stop. I want to show how, because we've removed these monkeys- they no longer have an owner who can look after them and since they are no longer used for anything, the highest chance is that they will die and perish alone in the wilderness without any pre-experience on how to cope alone without an owner. I want to show in the second half how miserable everything is and how humans and nature are now no longer bonded and humans pick coconuts from big heavy machines that have big impacts on trees and these machines have poisoned the air. This in short shows a very gloomy and horrible environment (but same location as the first side) and how we are destroying our own environments with these acts.

To conclude, the message I want to show is that we need to act on our decisions more carefully and consider the consequences in the long term and how it may affect animals such as these monkeys, rather than thinking of only our own behalf and what we think is best for us.

Compositing for each side complete, last stage is to combine the two together

Having completed the textures, I will now use photoshop to add in the extra details and combine the two renders together as one.

All models at this stage were completed and I could now set up the scenes. I decided at this point that I didn’t want my renders to look photorealistic but rather more cartoony, and the poster would look like it was a front page of a newspaper that was telling a story rather than a still image and that looks like it was taken from a camera.

I looked up online for images that I could use as inspiration and a way to get started.
