The history of Sonora is that of a pure geometric form, a hemisphere that Magistretti has pursued as an obsession for almost thirty years and is available in many materials and sizes. Created in 1976 using turned aluminium, it already measured 100 cm. In 1990 it was offered in etched blown glass and in 2003 in methacrylate. Three years later, the last version measured 133 cm, which was a demonstration of exceptional technology. Clumsily copied all over the world, Sonora is certainly one of the most popular lamps designed by Magistretti, who realized their ability to illuminate and especially characterize the entire environment: a kind of volume that is contained in another volume that is the room.
