Just knowing that I'm going to go to a cabin in the forest for the weekend or camping to some lake with the right people it's enough to already start feeling better. There's no better morning than the one you wake up to throw your stuff in the car and drive to your favorite hideout to meet your friends or family.
So this is what nature means to me, it charges my energy, lifts my mood, and re-framing perspectives.
Once you are there seems inevitable to take a deep breath to absorb the whole place and before you know it there's a big smile on your face.
So this is what I'm trying to recreate with this image.
This is an ideal beach based on a few references from tropical places. The sunset I believe is also a very special moment that nature brings us. The mood is still very positive, but a bit more reflexive and contemplative.

Software and equipment used

3ds Max, V-ray 5, Megascans, Quixel Mixer, 3D Coat, Marvelous Designer.

Getting closer!

01 February 2021

Moving stuff around and adding some props to tell the story.

01 February 2021

Modeling, retopoing, and baking maps for rock props in 3d coat. Vry time consuming, but a lot of fun.

25 January 2021

Creating some rocks to replace the ones from the blocking stage of the scene.

25 January 2021

Having to much fun with rocks and very little time left, auto retopo seems to work on this one, uv unwraping work still to do.

18 January 2021

Also started playing with Marvelous Designer to add some camping stuff like sleeping bags or even a tent maybe

I want to start adding some story to the image, so today I modeled a Ukelele. Lots of set backs with the UV unwrap, so in the end, I just textured it in max. (I was planning to texture it using Quixel Mixer, ).

10 January 2021

Added some vegetation and debris, no scatters used.
Still need to do changes, but I think the overall structure is this.

Today worked a bit with lighting, colours and contrast, trying to match my reference images. Hopefully, tomorrow I'll get to do some hard 3d work.

I wasn't quite happy with the way things looked, so I removed people and worked a bit on the camera and elements in the shot. Added some fog too for depth.

Didn't like the lady looking at us, so she's gone. But I feel the image too heavy on the left side so I want add some stuff to the right side. Looking at some references, some really cool beaches have some wooden boats. And this also helps sell the story about the guy getting into a boat and goign deeo into the ocean to climb the tall rock. So i modeled a basic boat. Doesn't need a lot of detail beacause of the light conditions. I also modeled the ropes using a free rope script.
Started playing around with some hue changes too.

Fooling around with some plants and people, too lazy to scatter the debri

Some of the atlases dont work only with basic planes, so you have to apply them to an actua mesh. So I had to build a bush, using speedtree for one of the bushes y downloaded. It was a lot of fun, but it was too time consuming(being a noob at the software) to keep using it.

A few days ago I got some free time and was able to do some work for the challenge. I downloaded a few atlases from Megascans to build some sand vegetation and debris. I wrote a basic script to apply subdividion, noise and convert it into poly since all the clicking was giving me a sore wrist.

I wasn't sure about entering the challenge, but today I made my mind after toying around with some assets and lighting. I'm also learning how to use Quixel mixer along with the project. It's a bit frustrating because things look so much better inside Mixer, but I hope I'll get the hang of it by the end of the project!
